C.A.R. Fire Disaster Information

As you know, wildfires devastated many parts of Southern California over the past few days, impacting areas of Santa Barbara County south to Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties.

It is during times of great crisis that the REALTOR® family comes together and supports each other. To that end, C.A.R. established the C.A.R. Disaster Relief Fund in the wake of the devastating 2003 California wildfires. Grants provided by the fund were used to help members of the REALTOR® family - REALTORS®, their staff, and association members and their staff - who incurred substantial losses due to the wildfires.

Today, C.A.R. continues to reach out to those affected by natural and other disasters by distributing grants of $1,000 to $10,000 from the fund. If you have been directly impacted by the most recent wildfires, you may make an application to request a grant from the Fund by calling Elizabeth de Carteret at (213) 739-8308 or by e-mail to elizabethd@car.org.

C.A.R. also has compiled resources and other useful information for those affected by the Southern California wildfires, including current details about the fires; assistance center locations; what to do after a fire; information on insurance- and tax-related issues; legal advice; applying for FEMA disaster relief funds; and fire preparedness resources. Go to the “REALTORS® Care” area of the “About C.A.R.” section of car.org or to http://www.car.org/aboutus/realtorscare/ for complete information. We’ll continue to add to this section as more information becomes available.

If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation to the C.A.R. Disaster Relief Fund, please make checks payable to the California Community Foundation and write "C.A.R. Disaster Relief Fund" on the "memo" line. Send checks to the California Community Foundation, 445 S. Figueroa St., #3400, Los Angeles, CA 90071-1638. To make a contribution online, click here.

Thank you for your thoughts and support.
