President's Message

President’s Message

Spring is in the air. Times are changing. We are now on Daylight Savings Time. Spring also means we are ready to set up our Charitable Foundation Interviews. Our 501c Board of Directors is looking for candidates to interview who are non-profit corporations. Last year we were able to help twelve different charities. If any member knows of a worthwhile cause that serves our communities with little or no funding or grants, we are interested in inviting them to a presentation day in April. The funds are not dispersed until our December Christmas Breakfast with a lovely presentation designed around our membership’s gifts.

Examples from last year were “Rising Stars” which helps developmental disabled people learn how to ride horses. Another was” Kids Come First,” a medical clinic in Ontario, providing free medical care for children entering school for the first time who need physicals and shots but their parents are working in low wage jobs and do not have medical insurance. Many worthwhile endeavors are going on in our communities and we would like to help.

The Pomona Kiwanis Club for many years has provided a grill, food and manpower for organizations in Pomona who are attempting to raise funds to benefit children but experienced a crime when their past Treasurer embezzled all their funds. Our Charitable Foundation was able to help. Please contact me by email agentmoulder1@yahoo.com with the name of any organization we may invite to our April presentation day.

We have a very active Housing Committee at the Association comprised of a solid dedicated core group

that is looking into many different agencies able to assist in workforce housing issues. We have a Senator who is authoring a bill to request a change in verbiage for deed restrictions in low to moderate housing to reflect the actual cost of the home instead of the assessed neighborhood value which, if passed, could significantly reduce the taxes to keep the payments affordable.

With the subprime lending going away on 100% financing, we are going to have to come up with different and creative ways to get families into homes. This is also going to make our affordable housing efforts even more important to pursue. Also in the offering is an Assemblyman who wants to sponsor a Housing Summit with the various agencies participating that are necessary to help families qualify for housing. Programs designed to help our working force obtain homes are available - we just need to get the programs utilized.

The formation of the Public Relations/Communication Committee is underway. A detailed plan is in the development process to kick off the campaign. Even though we’re three months behind schedule, our efforts will prove to be effective. If you are interested in joining this committee, please contact me by email agentmoulder1@yahoo.com.

Speaking about the Public Relations committee, I was in contact with the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin about a collective open house endeavor that would be online and free to all members who would like their open houses included. I thought this sounded exciting and I’m checking with MRMLS to get an okay. Details will be coming out soon. Check your emails and weekly bulletin for other announcements. The Education and Membership Committee is planning many exciting educational programs and events. Look for those announcements also.

Until next month, wishing you much prosperity, President Linda.
